Real quick though, let me address the elephant in the room. Yes, the background you’re seeing in this video is different and that’s because I’ve moved back to the Seattle area. It was a very difficult decision and one that I may talk about in a future video, but not today.
So, on the subject of fashion trends, where do WE fall on the scale of acceptance? Should we follow trends? Can we follow trends? Instead of offering you a blanket YES or NO answer, I’d like to dive in a little deeper because in my opinion there are definitely some trends that should we should be avoiding.
The truth is, you’re most likely already following trends without even knowing it. For example, if you’re wearing a more slim or tapered pair of jeans or even flat front trousers, you’re following a trend. Menswear has been trending more on the fitted and tailored side of things for quite a while now and in my opinion, that’s a good thing. Because wearing clothes that actually fit properly makes pretty much anyone look more polished and put together.
So, I guess instead of answering either YES or NO, I’ll say IT DEPENDS. It depends on the trend and whether or not it’s something you could realistically pull off. For me personally, I’m not afraid to try stuff and you guys know that. I walk that line sometimes between what we might consider age appropriate classics, and more modern trendy pieces. Not everything I do will be a hit, but at least I try stuff. I do like to pay attention to what’s going on in the menswear space so I can be informed and be able to communicate effectively to you guys.
I think its okay to embrace certain trends, but how I look at it is I would rather BORROW from trends instead of being overly trendy. Let me explain what I mean.. Okay, so for example this coming summer 2019, stripes are huge. Big fat stripes, bold stripes and colorful stripes. Stripes are everywhere. Instead of going out to the trendy store and buying the trendy stripy thing, I might find a more classic menswear piece with some sort of stripe. You’re still technically ‘on trend’ (and look, this is assuming that it even matters to you, and if it doesn’t that’s fine), but in this case, you’d be wearing what’s trending without looking like a H&M mannequin.
Another trend is white pants. I recently made a video showing a bunch of different ways to wear white pants so if you missed that one and would like to see it, I’ll leave a link right here.
One more trend that I’ve been playing with over the last year or so is bold patterned trousers. I think it’s an interesting look that works pretty well for us year round, but I’ll be releasing a video talking more about it soon.
If you haven’t already hit that subscribe button over on YouTube, do that now because I’m here for you twice a week and I’d love to have you hang out. I’ll see you in a few days for a brand new video and until then, be safe.

40 is an age where men are truly settled and definitely young at heart. It’s never too late to be fashionable. Thank you for the great thoughts and thanks for the post.
