I don’t necessarily consider myself a “watch guy”, but I do currently own 7 of them. However, I would classify all of them as fitting nicely into the budget price-point category. Let me admit right off the top that I’m not a watch expert and my knowledge of watches is extremely limited. All of my current watches are battery powered and cost less than $200 each. For some reason, I can’t see myself spending a lot of money on a watch, but with that said, expensive automatic watches are becoming more and more appealing to me.
To me, what’s important in a watch at the moment are design aesthetics and versatility of wear. I want a watch that can be worn with a variety of different outfits and can easily make the transition from daytime activities to night. That might be different than what’s important to you, but so far, my collection of Daniel Wellington and Nixon watches have been doing a pretty good job.
If there was one hole in my collection, it was a dress-looking watch with a metal strap. I have a bunch of leather and nylon straps, but I wanted a good-looking watch with a metal strap for evenings out. I’ve seen MVMT watches a lot on Instagram, so when I was in Nordstrom recently, I saw them in the watch case. This one, the Voyager series with the silver strap caught my eye. It looked good on my wrist so I bought it. Size is somewhat important since I don’t have super thick wrists, so this one at 42mm is perfect.

If there’s one thing I’ve discovered after a few weeks of wearing, it’s that since the hands are thin and the face is black, sometimes in the right light it can be a little hard to detect the hands. It just takes a few seconds and it’s not really a big deal, but you do have to look at it for a few seconds longer than a watch with more contrast between the hands and the face.
