Today I want to tackle the subject of skin care for men and why it’s important that you do something. So truth be told, I was not always interested in any type of skin care for several reasons really. Firstly, I thought it was weak or feminine to worry about skin care because I was always pretty blue collar, and secondly, there really wasn’t a whole lot of products on the market geared specifically for men. It’s like if you wanted to do anything, you had to use women’s products. Now, growing up, I had the typical teenage acne and back then, the only thing I was aware of to help control it was regular bar soap and Oxy 10. The problem is, those things just strip oil and dry your skin out way too much.
Gentlemen, here’s the thing, the skin on your face has a unique oil balance that needs to be maintained. If you use products that are overly drying and strip too much oil from your face, your body will try to bring back the balance and accelerate oil secretion and that’s where breakouts come from. Your face doesn’t want to be too dry or too oily, it wants to be just right.
Today, there’s all sorts of products available specifically for men. Just go check out your local target store. Actually, it’s kind of cool because a lot of the target stores have a entire area that’s devoted strictly to men’s products like body wash, beard products, lotions, shaving products and hair products. However, since the business of men’s skin care and hair care is booming, so is an increase in Allergic contact dermatitis caused by allergic reactions to various ingredients in hair products, hair color products and cheap skin care products. Two of the big offenders are preservatives and fragrance additives. Now, I’m not a dermatologist and I won’t get into a lot of the studies I’ve read, but feel free to Google anything you’re curious about.
For me personally, I like using skin care products with a good balance of natural ingredients while still being gentle on my skin without causing irritation, but also it has to be effective. Because I don’t want to spend money on something that doesn’t work, and I’ll assume you feel the same way. That’s why for about the last three years straight, I’ve been using Tiege Hanley products. They are sponsoring today’s video, but like I said. I’ve been using this stuff literally since day one in 2016 when they first started and I’ve spent my own money on it every single month ever since and I’m happy to do it.
If you’re not familiar with Tiege Hanley, this is a skin care system that was started by a popular YouTuber, Aaron Marino and his partners back in 2016 with the goal of producing uncomplicated skin care products for men using quality and natural ingredients that rivals some of the biggest names in the skin care industry. It’s a monthly subscription service, and they have three different levels you can choose from so every single month, or whenever you like because you can modify your shipping schedule, they’ll send your system straight to you.
The level 1 system includes a daily face wash, a twice weekly exfoliating scrub, a morning moisturizer with SPF 20, and a nighttime moisturizer. The level 2 system includes all of those items plus an additional eye cream that helps fight fine lines and wrinkles underneath and around your eyes. This eye cream includes caffeine and vitamin B3 which helps skin elasticity and reduces discoloration. The level 3 system includes all of those items plus a morning and night super serum. This is a highly concentrated formula packed with antioxidants, vitamins and anti-aging ingredients.
All of their products are fragrance free for sensitive skin types, so if you’re concerned about fragrance additives being sensitizing and causing allergic reactions, rashes or contact dermatitis, it’s one less thing to worry about. I’m going to put a link down below in the description box and I highly encourage you to go check it out. If you’re not sure where to start, just start with a level 2 system and go from there. I’ve been using the level 2 for the last three years, and just recently upgraded to the level 3 because I wanted the super serum.
A common practice in the skincare industry, especially in women’s skin care is taking a product like, for example moisturizer and then separating all of the ingredients to make other products you can buy and spend more money on instead of keeping all the ingredients in a singular product that works. It’s just a way for companies to get you to buy more products and spend more money.
The whole tagline for Tiege Hanley is “uncomplicated skin care for men” and that’s absolutely true. You get the products you need and nothing you don’t. They’ve essentially taken all of the guesswork out of it and made things pretty simple in my opinion. You even get a little card inside the box that tells you when to use each item and how much to use. Like I mentioned earlier, this is a very simple subscription service and you can adjust your shipping schedule to accommodate how quickly, or not so quickly you’re going through the products which is also a pretty nice feature to have.
It really starts to get interesting the older I get and the more I dive into this men’s lifestyle space, that girls and young women are taught at a very early age about skincare and make up as well as fashion and how to pair clothing items together, but men and young boys are not. I guess it’s still considered girly or feminine for men or boys to pay attention to their appearance so fathers aren’t teaching this stuff. But I might argue to the contrary and say that you’re MORE of a man because you know about this stuff. You know how to tie a tie and you know how to wear a suit and you know how to match certain pieces and you know the basic rules of how to put yourself together. But anyway, that’s more of a rant for another video.
Gentlemen, I’m not here to tell you what to do or what products you need to use. I just really enjoy the opportunity that I have to be able to introduce you and a bunch of other like-minded dudes to stuff that maybe you didn’t already know about. You don’t have to use what I use, but I highly encourage you to just do something. Do something. Incorporate some type of skin care routine right now going forward and I promise you’ll thank me later.
If you’re not already subscribed to my channel, please take care of that right now and don’t forget to hit the link right here to check out Tiege Hanley, and I’ll see you in a few days for a brand new video, take care of yourself.
