Men’s Hairstyles Over 40

Today I wanted to talk about age appropriate hairstyles that look great on a lot of different guys. Let’s start with hairstyles for guys that are thinning or receding.

My first piece of advice here, is to embrace it and not try to hide or cover the fact that you’re thinning. Depending on the amount of thinning or recession you have, it may be best to cut it short or shave it off completely. Bald is beautiful baby and if you pair it with confidence, it’s a great look. One thing to note though, if you decide to shave it off, try to grow some facial hair to help balance out your face.
Next is the buzz cut and the crew cut. This is a simple super low maintenance hairstyle that can look incredible. Again, if you’re thinning or balding, this is a great option. I might even play around with keeping the sides shorter than the top so you still have options for styling.
Speaking of keeping the sides shorter than the top, the next hairstyle is the side-fade or taper. This helps add structure to your face if you have a round head shape. Having short sides that taper up to longer hair on top is a super masculine look that works with lots of different hair types.
Next is the classic side part. This can work with longer hair or shorter hair. You can also incorporate a side fade to add more structure. This hairstyle has been around forever and it’s stood the test of time. If you’re feeling a little daring, you can have your barber cut in a hard part, but be careful to not go too wide. Otherwise, it looks like a crater on the side of your head. This will also require more cleanup as it grows out.
Last up, if you have it, let it grow and see what it looks like. If you have wavy hair or full hair, you have a lot of options with hairstyles. But, keep in mind, this will require a lot more time in front of your mirror every day getting it all to stay in place. Personally, I’ll let mine grow for a while, then cut it short again.
