Today I want to talk about accessories for men. Some of these you wear, and some of these you carry but they all can help fill in some gaps in your wardrobe, and set you apart from other less stylish guys.
The older we get, the more our clothing options and stores where we can buy our clothes get narrowed down because at least in my opinion, it’s not a good idea at 41 to dress like you did when you were 21. Most of the time though, dressing younger isn’t our fault because the older we get, the less options we have because clothing manufactures stop caring about the older demographic. So our choices for stylish but also age appropriate clothing become a lot more limited. It can get a little confusing out there and that’s why I started this website and YouTube channel. But that’s also a topic for another day. Today we’re talking about accessories that can elevate just about any outfit.
OK, first up is a slim wallet or card holder. I’ve talked about wallets before, and if your wallet looks like George Costanza‘s, it’s probably time for an upgrade. I’m a fan of cardholders and I’ve had this one for so long I don’t even remember where I got it, but it holds the basic one or two cards, my drivers license and some cash that I need on a daily basis. At least for me, there’s no need to carry every single card I own and nine receipts from last week every single day. For example, if I’m not going to Costco today why do I need to carry my Costco card? you get the idea. There’s lots of really nice slim wallet designs on the market, and I encourage you to check some out.
Next is a key ring holder. Personally, I only carry one key and that’s my car key. The door lock on my house is Bluetooth and I can control it from my phone, or I use my garage door opener. I do have some smaller key rings to a storage unit and post office box, but those usually stay in my car. If you carry a LOT of keys, I would maybe have you evaluate what you need on a daily basis and separate your keys from daily use to occasional use and put them on separate rings. Something like a leather key ring holder looks a lot nicer and is a little more streamlined in your pocket. Key ring holders come in all sorts of different sizes, designs and materials, and a lot of people geek out on stuff like this, but I tend to like more minimal soft leather holders.
Next are bracelets. adding a simple beaded bracelet or metal cuff, adds just a little bit of bling and interest that other guys might not be doing. I would encourage you though to not go too crazy or bold and try to keep it at just one simple bracelet. I used to be into bracelets quite a bit and would stack about three or four of them all together, but I quickly outgrew that phase. today, I don’t wear bracelets all that often, but if I do, it’s just one simple beaded bracelet. i’ve also seen silver or gold metal cuffs that look pretty nice also.
Since we’re talking about bling and interest on your wrist, we can’t forget about watches. I’m a fan of high end watches, and I’m a fan of less expensive lower end watches and I don’t discriminate. A watch is something that you don’t necessarily have to spend thousands of dollars on, but I know a lot of watch enthusiasts will say otherwise. if you want a good-looking affordable watch, check out some of the new designs from MVMT.
I’ve talked about MVMT before and that I like the fact that they’re not thousand dollar watches and they’re not trying to be. They make good looking, affordable designs that start at around $95. What I also like is all of the different designs they have so you can easily swap out your watch to match the wardrobe you put together for that day. Also, they use quick release spring pins, so you can easily swap out straps to completely change the look of your watch. If you want something more formal like this new automatic watch, you can go with the metal mesh strap, or within just a minute, you can swap it out for a more sporty look with a leather strap or a NATO strap. If you’ve got a bigger wrist they’ve got you covered with their larger case options up to 47 mm, and if you have a more modest wrist size they have designs all the way down to 39 mm. Guys, use the link down below and go check out all of the new designs they have for this season, and use our special discount code to get yourself a nice discount on a bunch of their watches whether it’s for you, or someone on your Christmas list.
Next is your belt. If you’re wearing the same brown or black belt every single day, I encourage you to change things up a little bit in the belt department. I’ve got a bunch of different belt straps and a bunch of different buckles that are all interchangeable so I can swap out my belt to better match what I’ve got going on that day. For example, if I’m wearing blue jeans and white sneakers, I might run with something like this. And if I’m wearing a gold watch like this one, I can swap out the buckle for this one.
Next, incorporate a tie clip or tie bar whatever you wanna call it. I like wearing tie clips for several reasons because they’re not only functional by keeping your tie in place, but it also adds a little extra pop and visual interest. You can get them in a lot of different colors and you can get the slide-clip style or my favorite, the pinch style.
Next we have the pocket square. There’s not much I can think of that is so simple that also adds a huge improvement and dimension to your jacket. In my opinion, if you’re wearing a jacket that has a breast pocket, it needs to have a pocket square in it. It doesn’t have to be anything super flashy or volcanic, it just needs to be a little something there for interest. you can never go wrong with white cotton fabric, and my favorite fold is the presidential like this.
Guys, I’ve got a bunch left, but if you like what you’re seeing so far, please consider hitting that subscribe button because I’m here twice a week with brand new videos.
Next, if you wear glasses, maybe consider upgrading your frames for something a little bit newer or just adding a second or third set of frames to change things up a bit during the week. Also, if you wear readers like I do, maybe consider upgrading your glasses case for something a bit more stylish. Also, if your sunglasses could use an upgrade, this is a great way to give yourself some serious cool factor. so be sure to check out some of the incredibly cool looking sunglasses on the MVMT website while you’re there.
This next accessory is something you carry and it’s your computer bag, Briefcase or messenger bag. Finding a good computer bag is important because it has to be good looking, durable, as well as functional. It needs to have organization to keep your smaller items separate, and your larger more expensive items from banging into each other. you can find bags in all sorts of different materials, but I happen to be a fan of my leather one.
Next on my list are suspenders. I know some people wear suspenders on a daily basis as a personal preference to help keep their trousers in place, but for the rest of us, adding a really cool pair of suspenders every once in a while adds another element of visual interest. If your trousers have suspender buttons, you can utilize that style, or you can get the clip style. Just be sure that you don’t wear a belt with suspenders. It’s either a belt or suspenders, not both at the same time.
Next we have a pocket knife. Some guys are super into their pocket knives, while the rest of us occasionally carry something smaller and more streamlined. I don’t always carry mine with me, but when I don’t, that seems to be the day that I needed it for something. In my opinion, it should be somewhat on the small streamlined side while still being effective.
Next is something you probably handle about 100 times a day and that’s your phone. if you’ve got an old chunky cell phone case, maybe it’s time to look into something a little more streamlined and elegant. there are literally thousands of designs and materials out there, but for me, I like a really clean and simple phone case. I’ve also become addicted to the pop socket even though it’s not very elegant in itself. It’s just one of those things that once you try it, you have to keep using it.
This next one isn’t something that I’m particularly into, but I wanted to add it to the list for those of you that might be, and that’s rings. I do see a lot of guys excess arising with different rings and I feel some guys pull it off a lot better than other guys. I would say, (in my opinion, that if you want to Incorporate rings for a bit of visual interest, I would keep it to a minimum and only wear one ring per hand.
