Every guy needs at least one suit, and if you hate the thought of spending $500+ for something you might only wear a few times a year, I’ve got a solution for you.
The J Ferrar Slim Fit Suit at JCPenny. I’ve seen them for as little as $130 and as high as $190 (depending on the sale). I bought mine for $150 and put another $50 into it for minor tailoring (jacket sleeve & trouser hem).
The J Ferrar suits are polyester which keeps the cost down (wool costs more) but since the cut is slim, they look more expensive, especially after tailoring. Polyester suits typically don’t breathe as well as wool, but I found this suit to perform just fine and I didn’t feel warm wearing it. Polyester suits will typically crease less and last longer than wool, provided you take care of it.
Take a guy in a poor-fitting $2000 suit and stand him next to a guy wearing well-fitting inexpensive suit. The inexpensive suit will always look better. It’s all in the fit.
If you’re in the market for a new suit and don’t want to spend a lot, I recommend checking out JCPenny for the J Ferrar line. Maybe this is your first suit, or maybe you just want to add another one because they’re so darn inexpensive. Either way, if you get one, don’t forget to have it tailored. You’ll be glad you did and you’ll look like a million bucks.

I have purchased two tuxedos from that brand, which works perfectly for me since I need t wear one a couple times a year. The 40 Reg fits perfectly, so spending a bit on a taper and hem on the pant is fine. Plus, a tuxedo pant can then be paired with whatever new seasonal jacket comes along.
