Denim Jacket Styling Ideas

What’s going on guys. Today we’re talking about how to style denim jackets for the fall & winter months. About a year ago I made a video on 3 ways to wear a denim jacket. Although the video was a little rough since I was new to making videos, the ideas were pretty solid. If you’re interested in seeing that old one, I’ll link it here, but for the record, it’s not great production value.

Since it’s officially fall on the calendar, it’s time to start thinking about lightweight jacket options. You could easily go with a nice bomber jacket or a Harrington jacket, but today I wanted to give primary focus to the denim jacket. Since I personally own a blue one and a black one, I’ll be showing you a few ideas on how you can put together a couple different outfit combinations using each jacket.

Okay, first up we have the light blue, sort of washed out jacket I picked up last year from American Eagle. It has a lot of stretch built in so it’s actually really comfortable to wear vs. the traditional non-stretch denim trucker jackets back in the day. The first question everyone seems to have when wearing a denim jacket is.. can I wear denim on denim. The answer is.. yes, but with caution. Let me explain.

You can absolutely wear denim on denim as long as you hold contrast between the two. For example, If the jacket is light color, go with darker wash blue jeans. You can go with dark blue, black or even gray jeans. The only thing to be careful about is getting your jeans too close in color tone to the jacket. Otherwise, you can pair up just about anything you want.
Next, let’s pair up both jackets with chinos. The black jacket I have comes from Express and I’ll do my best to leave direct links down below if these are still available on their web sites. You can go with just about any color you want. Tan, burgundy and olive are great fall colors that also go great with denim jackets. Personally, I like tan because it’s so versatile. Throw on some nice boots and you’re looking casual, but also stylish.
Next I used a lightweight hoodie as a layering piece to add an extra layer of warmth and texture when it really starts getting cold out. You can go with a hoodie or even a lightweight sweater to add an extra layer of warmth and texture to your outfit. You can get as dressy as you want, but I prefer more casual vibes with jackets like this.
