Welcome fellas! Today I want to give you an overview and my initial impressions on a few pairs of shoes that I recently picked from Ace Marks. It actually makes a lot of sense to talk about Ace Marks because it’s a brand with a unique story having made Kickstarter history not only once, but twice by being the most funded footwear campaigns in 2016 and 2017. They offer products that fit right in with what we’re always talking about here. You guys know I’m a shoe guy so you can trust my inspection of these shoes will be pretty rigid.
So let’s get into the shoes. I have two pair of dress shoes and one pair of sneakers that I want to show you. First up are these beautiful burgundy cap-toe oxfords. Every Ace Marks shoe is handcrafted in Italy by a family of 4th generation master craftsmen. We’re talking premium, full grain, calfskin leather uppers and linings. Each pair is hand-crafted and they’re one of the last artisans that still hand dye and hand burnish each pair of shoes in-house. I’ve had these on the foot walking around the house and they’re very comfortable and they do fit true to size. After I get some miles on ‘em, I’ll come back and make a follow up video.
Next up we have a really impressive pair of brown wingtip derbies. These things are beautiful. All their shoes are made using Blake Stitch construction which means the sole can be replaced. Both Blake and Goodyear construction are really the best types of shoe you can have in my opinion. Now it depends on the shoe, but I tend to lean a little more towards Blake stitch because I like a more sleek, Italian shoe design and sometimes Goodyear welted shoes can be a little chunky. Blake stitched shoes are also more flexible and don’t usually require the same break-in period.
Okay, moving on to the sneakers. You guys know I like a good pair of sneakers. Again, we have a premium full-grain, calfskin leather upper and lining which is also anti-bacterial and perforated for breathability and comfort. They also use a very durable Margom sole. I’ve already worn these out a few times and they’re incredibly comfortable and go perfectly with blue jeans.
So, my initial impression? I’m very impressed. I do need to get some miles on them but I’ve worn them around the house for extended periods and they feel great. No real pressure points around the heel or at the vamp at the top of your foot. I have some other dress shoes in a similar price bracket that just don’t look and feel quite as nice, so I’m very excited to have the opportunity to put these through the paces. But right out of the box and on the foot, I’m beyond impressed.
