Hey guys! Today we’re talking about a few things you can implement to help look more expensive when you’re on a budget.
Wear solid colors
First is, wear more solid colors without bold patterns. Think James Bond (my favorite Bond is Daniel Craig, leave your favorite down below in the comments). I’ve mentioned this before. If people can’t see labels or logo’s, nobody can tell the brand you’re wearing or what it cost. Get the fit right and you’ll automatically look great. I’d suggest darker colors like navy blue, dark gray and black. Leave the big logo’s for the young guys who want to flex a bit.
Fit
I’ve been asked countless times what jeans I’m wearing, and when I say Gap or American Eagle, people sort of double-take. Because if your clothing fit is dialed in, and doesn’t look sloppy, it automatically looks more expensive. And if budget matters to you like it does to me, just a few weeks ago I made a video where I went to Target and spent $100 and got four great looking outfit combinations. I’ll link to that video right here.
Grooming
Make sure your Grooming is on point. If you have a beard, make sure you’re lining it up regularly. Take care of those random nose hairs, ear hears and the hair that grows on the back of your neck in between haircuts. Make sure your fingernails and toenails are taken care of, and keep your eyebrows in check. Maybe try something new with your hair style. If you have hair, and you’ve had the same hair style for the last 15 years, don’t you think it’s time to try something new? Also, if your skin is dry or blotchy, start using a daily moisturizer to help keep your face hydrated.
Wear a watch
Wearing a traditional, nice looking watch can absolutely make you look more expensive. And the watch doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. I’ve even talked about this in another video where I showed you a great looking alternative watch for $30. But today I’m partnering with MVMT Watches who’s sponsoring this video to help prove my point that wearing a good looking watch doesn’t have to break the bank.
I’d say most guys buy a watch because it looks a certain way and it appeals to them aesthetically. Now, there are watch enthusiasts who study watches and will only buy certain brands and tend to be fairly vocal about their opinions, but that’s a pretty small number of guys.
I’m somewhere in the middle and don’t get me wrong, I absolutely appreciate high-end brands. But I’m also not against wearing something that looks just as good for a fraction of the price. I’d even say, at least in my opinion, that most guys fall into the category of wanting something that looks great, while not breaking the bank.
So again, enter MVMT. Their watches look great. Now keep in mind, they’re not $1000 watches, and they’re not trying to be. They’re good-looking affordable watches that start at $95. And with this discount code, you can get 15% off with free shipping and returns. I’ll list and link everything down below so you can go have a look.
Here’s another thing.. a few months ago I found a few of my Dad’s old watches, and this one was in the best condition. I put a battery in it and bought this inexpensive bracelet on Amazon, and I wear the heck out of it. It’s a no-name brand and it’s probably not worth more than maybe $20, but to me, it’s priceless. So for someone else to tell you what you should or shouldn’t wear, because it’s not a specific brand, just doesn’t make any sense to me. Wear whatever watch you like my friends.
The cool thing is the straps and bracelets are quick-release, so it’s super easy to swap them out. For example, I swapped out the bracelet on this one for this blue & white NATO strap and I think it looks great against the blue dial. They also gave us a special discount code 40_OVER_Fashion that gets you 15% off with Free shipping.
Clean and polished shoes
This is subtle, but it makes a big difference when it’s not paid attention to. Having clean or polished shoes makes it look like your shoes are brand new. I realize it’s easy to forget about our shoes because they’re touching the ground all the time and they do pick up dirt and scuff marks, but it really doesn’t take much effort to clean them up and keep them looking nice. Next time you’re out, pay attention to men’s shoes and see if you can find the guys that maintain them and the guys that don’t. It’s pretty easy to spot. And if you’re single, women notice shoes really quickly.
Find a good tailor
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. You can take the same guy wearing baggy pants and an oversize shirt and stick him in the same items that actually fit his body and he’ll instantly look slimmer, taller, more stylish and more expensive.
Go thrifting
You can find incredible deals at thrift stores. And the good thing is, since you only paid a few dollars for a shirt, you can take it to a tailor and spend a few dollars more to get fit perfected.
Wear dark denim
I’ve talked about dark denim before and how incredibly versatile it is. It also ties in with wearing dark colors. Dark denim just by its nature looks more expensive than light wash or distressed denim. They’re also a lot easier to dress up with a pair or nice loafers or dress shoes, but they can also be dressed down more casually with a clean pair of sneakers. Dark denim is just a classic item and when you nail the fit and pair it with a nice dress shirt, you’ll look like a million bucks. And like I mentioned before, you don’t have to spend a lot on jeans. You can if you have the means, but there are so many great affordable options. Like Gap, Old Navy, Express or American Eagle.
