Wearing dark colors and dark solids has several benefits. First, dark colors absorb light. So if you’re a bigger guy, this has a slimming affect. Wearing dark colors can minimize your size and also make you look taller. Because darks absorb light, there’s isn’t a lot of drastic difference in highlight and shadow areas on your clothing. You’re basically entirely in shadow. Well, essentially speaking from the viewers’ perspective. Because there’s a lack of contrast between highlight and shadow, for example on your shirt, your trouble areas tend to be less visible and less noticeable.
More mysterious
The next benefit to wearing darks is it can make you appear more mysterious and more sexy. Here’s what I mean. Who always wears darks? The villain. The bad guy in old western movies. Darth Vader. Dracula. All these guys have a dark edge and wearing all black for example, makes them look a lot more mysterious and more dangerous, right? Now, I’m not suggesting that you wear all black all the time, but by incorporating black and other dark solids into your wardrobe, you can use that characteristic of mystery to your advantage.
Sex appeal
Wearing darks also adds a level of sex appeal. Why? Look at how costume designers dress James Bond for example. He’s wearing dark colors a lot. His suits and tuxedos are almost always black. It looks more formal, it reads more classy, more expensive, you get the idea. It works in the movies, but you and I have to be a little more careful when going with a black suit because it’s a lot more formal and it’s not always the right choice. Of course though, it depends on the situation.
Look more expensive
Getting back to what I just mentioned about looking expensive, this is another advantage of wearing dark colors. This goes back to looking a little higher class, and it works for everyone men and women. So take a look at this. Think about it, who looks more expensive? A man in a lighter color suit or a man in a black suit? In my opinion, the guy in the black suit looks more expensive and higher class. Same thing goes for women. What makes her look more expensive? The lighter tone patterned dress or the solid black dress? Either way she’s stunning, but in my opinion, she looks more expensive (in a good way) and also higher class wearing the black dress.
Now, wearing dark colors coupled with your confidence, and you’ll look like a million bucks. Okay, take a look at the video I linked above and let me show you a few looks I put together that maybe you can use for some inspiration.
